Thanks. I've been a little slow on posting the past couple weeks because of being so busy with other shit. :o( Hopefully I'll get the chance to start writing longer articles again once we finish the school year up. I also need to finish writing Ki...

I'd have to agree. FUM is pretty much dead now too. There's way too many forums nowadays and not nearly time to stay active on all of them. Nowadays I blog about my own experiences and check a couple of boards from time to time but that's it. :o(

Actually that's exactly what I have done with Battlegrounds. Unfortunately the lack of a real, integrated character sheet (which at least for me is an important ingredient for successful GMing), and the clunky chat & identity functionality (the la...

I have and not to sound skeptical but EpicTable has been in development now for years.... While I still wait anxiously to see the final result I honestly don't think I could justify paying for it knowing how slow the development has been and what ...

Online gaming is dead. Ok, it is dominated by only a few specific games (3.5/4E being the 800 lb. gorilla of them) which makes it hard to do a lot with story games online. I've struggled to find even a handful of players willing to learn SGs onli...

Waldo,
Thanks for the feedback on the last ep of CP. What did you like most about the Ryan Macklin bit? What could have been better?

About Me:
Ex-pat American living in Germany. I have a Ph.D. in Biological Psychology and once was the clinical director of a sleep medicine business but gave it up because of the stress. Nowadays I teach Psychology and Life Skills at an international school in Germany which is my dream job (14 weeks of vacation of a year!). I have two sons (one's 6-years, the other 6-months old) and a wife who puts up with my hobbies and lets me have the basement for my "Geek Cave."

I've been role-playing for 25 years (my quarter century anniversary is in November). I started with Star Frontiers, before moving on to AD&D. Since then I've played quite a few games although nowadays I play mostly indie & story games.

At the moment I'm in the process of writing a couple RPGs and putting together a "Publishing Company Commune" (i.e., getting friends and likeminded people together to help me write/publish games) in which all of my proceeds (if any) will go to charity.

First Impressions: The Committee for the Exploration of Mysteries

I finally got a chance to sit down with my local gaming group last night and play The Committee for the Exploration of Mysteries last night. My first impression is "Wow!" All of us were brand new to the game with 6 players total (it's a GM-less game). Only I had read the rules prior to the session. Within an hour we had generated our characters and finished the outline of our adventure. I decided to play "Sin Jin Lee, Kung Fu master."… Continue

There are a lot of great books, articles, forum posts, and blogs out there that anyone who is interested in crafting their skills at being a GM and/or player should read. Unfortunately a lot of them are not on most people's radar. I thus offer up the following "must read" list for anyone interested in becoming a better GM or player.

What I'm playing

Here's what I'm up to at the moment:

My Life with Master - Master Schalmeister wants to ring every last drop of happiness and joy out of the villagers' lives. I'm running this game on Monday nights using Battlegrounds VT.

Prohibition Demons - this is a PbP game in which I play an ex-boxer, turned detective. It uses the PDQ system.

Dark Matters - Set in the port city of Five Fingers in the Iron Kingdoms, the players are members of the City's Watch who are tasked wit… Continue
